I recently set about building a PC but I can't get it to work as the Bios won't run. The machine boots up, the processor fan starts to spin, the hard drive makes a few clicking sounds and that's it - the screen remains blank. I have changed the RAM, tried two different graphics cards and two hard drives - a brand new one and an old one. The board came with the processor - all I had to do was slot it in. I bought the board from the US using the internet, so to send it back is going to be a hassle. It didn't come with a manual, either.

Even with no peripherals connected, if you power up a motherboard with memory and a processor fitted, you should hear one or more beeps. One beep tells you all is well. If you hear more than one beep, the pattern of beeps should help diagnose what the problem is.
The beep codes and their meanings should be described in the motherboard manual. However, if they aren't (or you don't have a manual) then PCGuide's Troubleshooting Bios Beep Codes may contain the information you need. If you are hearing no beeps at all, either power isn't getting to the motherboard, or the board or processor are dead.
Since the board didn't come with a manual, we would hazard a guess that the company may have deliberately palmed you off with something it knew was faulty, gambling that the cost of returning it and the difficulty of obtaining legal redress from outside the USA would allow them to get away with it.
